TOPIC: FINDING OUT YOUR TRUE IDENTITY
THEME SCRIPTURE: "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light" — 1 Peter 2:9
PREPARATORY QUESTION
Am I defining myself by my circumstances, achievements, or by what God says about me?
Some questions shape the direction of a person’s life. Among the most important is the question, “Who am I?” The answer we embrace determines our choices, values, and the path we pursue. A mistaken identity can lead us into misplaced ambitions, unhealthy comparisons, and decisions that move us away from God’s purpose.
For the believer, identity is not something we create; it is something we receive from God. In Ephesians 1, Paul reveals the spiritual blessings believers have in Christ, showing that our worth and position come from God’s grace and purpose. Peter continues this truth by declaring, “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession” (1 Peter 2:9).
These words redefine how a Christian should see themselves. We are not merely products of our past, our failures, our social status, or the opinions of others. We belong to God. We have been chosen, called, and set apart to reflect His character and declare His goodness to the world.
When identity is rooted in Christ, our choices become clearer. We no longer live to prove our value; we live from the assurance that we already have value in God. We do not seek acceptance from the world because we know we have been accepted by our Creator.
Understanding who we are in Christ is not a passive truth—it is a foundation for purposeful living. A person who knows their identity can walk with confidence, humility, and direction.
Key Takeaway
Precious one, a Christian’s true identity is found in Christ. Knowing who God says we are gives us the confidence to live according to His purpose.
Beloved, do not allow temporary labels, past experiences, or human opinions to define you. Return to God’s Word and let His truth shape your identity and your decisions.
God bless you more.
