TOPIC: THE MIND SET ON THE SPIRIT
THEME SCRIPTURE: "For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."—Romans 8:6
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS
What occupies your mind most each day—the desires of the flesh or the things of the Spirit?
These things says the Lord Jesus Christ, who gives the Holy Spirit without measure and whose words are spirit and life: “I know your works. I know your desire for spiritual growth. I know your hunger for victory over sin and your longing to experience My peace. I see your efforts to pray, study My Word, and seek My will. I know the times you have chosen obedience when it was costly and faithfulness when it was difficult.”
These things are pleasing in His sight.
“Nevertheless, I have this against many of you” declares the Lord. You desire spiritual results while feeding fleshly influences. You seek peace while allowing your minds to be consumed by fear. You pray for victory while dwelling on temptation. You ask for spiritual strength while neglecting the very means by which the Spirit renews your mind.
Many are careful about what enters their bodies but careless about what enters their minds. Have you forgotten that your thoughts shape your affections, and your affections shape your actions? The battle for your life is often won or lost in the realm of the mind.
Remember therefore that the mind set on the flesh naturally gravitates toward self, sin, fear, pride, bitterness, and worldly desires. But the mind set on the Spirit is directed toward God’s truth, His promises, His character, and His purposes. What you consistently focus upon will influence what you become.
If your mind feeds continually on anxiety, fear will grow. If your mind feeds continually on impurity, temptation will grow stronger. But if your mind feeds on God’s Word, His truth will renew you. If your mind dwells upon God’s presence, His peace will guard you.
Repent of neglecting your thought life. Do not permit every thought to take residence in your mind. Bring your thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ. Reject what is false and embrace what is true. Reject what is impure and meditate on what is holy. Reject what promotes death and fill your heart with what produces life.
Beloved, the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells within you. You are not left to manage your thoughts alone. Invite Him daily to renew your mind and redirect your affections.
Walk with Him. Listen to Him. Fill your heart with God’s Word. Set your mind on things above.
Precious one, to the one who overcomes will God grant life and peace in increasing measure. His mind shall become steady in times of trouble. His heart shall remain secure in seasons of uncertainty. He shall experience the freedom of a mind governed by the Spirit and the joy of fellowship unhindered by fleshly distractions.
Remain blessed.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit to dwell within me and guide me into truth. Thank You that I am not left to fight the battles of the mind in my own strength. Forgive me for the times I have allowed my thoughts to be shaped more by the world than by Your Word. Help me to reject every thought that opposes Your truth and to embrace all that honors You. Renew my mind by Your Spirit. Fill my heart with Your truth. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
