TOPIC: COME UP TO THE LORD
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. You are to worship at a distance,”—Exodus 24:1
PREPARATORY QUESTION
What does it mean to come up to the Lord?
Beloved, one of the most profound invitations in Scripture is found in God’s words to Moses: “Come up to the Lord.” This was not merely a physical instruction to climb a mountain. It was a call into deeper fellowship, greater consecration, and clearer revelation.
God still calls His people upward.
There are seasons when comfort, distraction, and familiarity can quietly keep a believer spiritually settled. But God does not call His people to remain stagnant. Growth requires movement. Depth requires response.
Notice that Moses had to leave one level to encounter to another. There are things God reveals only to those willing to come closer. Not because He is hiding Himself, but because intimacy requires pursuit.
Many want clarity while remaining spiritually passive. But spiritual maturity is built through intentional pursuit — prayer when it is inconvenient, obedience when it is costly, and focus when distractions compete for attention.
Coming higher also means leaving behind lesser things behind. You cannot carry every distraction, compromise, or divided priority into deeper fellowship with God. Sometimes the greatest barrier to spiritual growth is not open rebellion, but spiritual complacency.
God’s invitation was personal: “Come up to the Lord.” This is not only about ministry, leadership, or public service. It is about relationship. God desires people who seek Him beyond routine and surface-level devotion.
Do not mistake proximity to spiritual things for closeness to God Himself. Moses did not merely stand near the mountain — he responded to the invitation.
Know This
- “God calls people upward before He entrusts them deeper.”
- “Spiritual growth requires intentional separation.”
- “You cannot remain spiritually stagnant and expect greater clarity.”
- “God invites closeness, not casual distance.”
The same invitation stands today.
Come higher in discipline. Higher in surrender. Higher in attention to God’s voice. Higher in trust.
There is more God desires to form in you, but you must be willing to respond to His call upward.

PRAYER
Father, help me respond to Your invitation to come higher. Remove complacency from my heart and deepen my desire for genuine fellowship with You. Teach me to pursue You intentionally and to let go of anything that weakens my spiritual growth. Draw me closer and shape my life according to Your will. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
