TOPIC: NO MORE FENCE-SITTING
THEME SCRIPTURE: “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot... So because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” — Revelation 3:15-16 (NIV)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Why do some Christians struggle to fully commit to Jesus, and rather choose to be lukewarm?
Know This:
Believing about God is not the same as trusting in Him. Faith in Christ is not intellectual agreement—it’s full surrender. Jesus calls us to more than church attendance or half-hearted morality. He wants all of our hearts, not part.
Brian, a regular church attendant had a conversation with Todd, and it is most believer’s struggle: “What if I fully commit to Christ and I blow it? What if I fail?” The answer is not perfection from the start—it’s direction.
God doesn’t expect instant holiness, but He does demand genuine repentance and a willingness to walk with Him towards perfection.
“God has no grandchildren,” said Corrie Ten Boom. Each must decide for themselves whether they will live for Christ or live for self. Partial commitment is no commitment. Jesus makes it plain: lukewarm faith makes Him sick.
Many want salvation but not surrender. They want forgiveness but not obedience. Yet C.S. Lewis wrote, “Christ says, ‘Give me all. I don’t want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work: I want you and all.’”
The moment of surrender is not the end—it’s the beginning of new life. You may still stumble, but God’s grace isn’t just a reset button—it’s power to walk uprightly.
“Beloved, If you falter, you get back up.” That’s growth.
Jesus didn’t call us to comfort—He called us to a cross. But He also gives us His Spirit to empower the life He commands. Too many Christians are caught between what’s “fun” and what’s freeing. Sin might thrill—but it also traps. You have to choose between fun and freedom. Only Christ is big enough to set us free, and until we commit to Him, freedom would be elusive.
So note this today:
- “Being lukewarm is not safe—it’s deadly.”
- “God doesn’t need perfection from the start—but He requires direction towards perfection.”
- “Real commitment means surrendering even what you still struggle with to God.”
- “The guilt of compromise is heavier than the cost of surrender.”
Beloved, Joshua, the servant of God, presented a critical moment to his people when he was nearing the end of his days. He said to them, “…Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve” Today, it is your turn to make that choice—whom will you serve? God or the world?

- What areas of my life have I withheld from God’s control?
- Am I more afraid of failing, or of never fully surrendering?
PRAYER
Father, I confess I’ve tried to live with one foot in the world and one in Your will. I’m tired of guilt, compromise, and lukewarm faith. I want to give You my whole life—flaws, fears, and all. Teach me to walk with You. Forgive my half-heartedness and fill me with the power to follow fully. I surrender today. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
